Sustainability Communications Intern
Ideas On Purpose is a boutique sustainability and impact communications firm. We work with Fortune 500 companies, foundations, and nonprofits to help them communicate what they’re doing and why it matters. Our clients include some of the most recognized brands in the world.
This is a paid summer internship with real output: your name on published research, client-facing contributions, and direct mentorship from senior practitioners.
What You’ll Do
Your primary project is leading the next edition of our biennial Trends in Corporate Reports white paper — a rigorous study of how Fortune 200 companies report on sustainability. You’ll design the research methodology, use AI tools to help execute the study across 200 companies, analyze findings, synthesizing complex data into high-level strategic insights, and write the paper. This means hands-on research alongside AI, you’ll need the judgment to know when to use each. Your work will be published and credited.
Beyond the white paper, you’ll support our team on live client projects, helping with sustainability reporting, benchmarking, and drafting thought leadership content.
Who You Are
You’re a rising senior or graduate student in Sustainability, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field, and you care about the role business plays in advancing social and environmental progress.
You’re a strong writer and clear thinker. You’re comfortable using AI for research and analysis — not as a shortcut, but as one tool alongside manual research and your own critical thinking. You should be able to design a research approach that uses AI where it adds rigor and do the work yourself where it doesn’t.
Marketing knowledge is a plus.
