e.l.f. Beauty was looking to hone their messaging around Materiality, Commitments, Environmental Topics, and Responsible Sourcing in a clear and digestible way. They needed a sustainability communication strategy as approachable as their products.

e.l.f engaged IOP to help with several strategic communication initiatives. First, IOP supported e.l.f in exploring its Sustainability Messaging & Communication Strategy. We conducted a review of current communications, conducted a market research, audience analysis, potential messaging platform and content strategy. We delivered actionable insights and key messages to guide the company’s communication on the focus topics—Climate & Emissions, Packaging Sustainability, Water, Responsible Sourcing / Supply Chain.

IOP then put that strategy into action by diving into e.l.f’s Impact Report. We began with a comprehensive report strategy, including content-gathering interviews’ in four key areas. To streamline the content we recommended other communications for some content and then we developed relevant report content, ensuring every message aligned to e.l.f.’s brand voice. The e.l.f. team was creating a web-based report for the first time, so to ease the transition, IOP provided proposals and suggestions for the environmental and sourcing sections of the Impact Report site.

Finally, we created modular charts and infographics to communicate e.l.f.’s progress on their commitments. We turned complex progress data into clear, understandable visual communication. These graphics were integrated into the FY 2025 Impact Report.

Slide set on a pink background titled ‘Research Summary’ showing four text boxes outlining a sustainability communications audit, key stakeholder interviews, competitive analysis, and research scope, alongside a large photo of two makeup brushes against a bright blue background.
Graphic set on a light green background titled ‘Planet’ showing climate and emissions and packaging sustainability commitments. Four panels display goals and progress: reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions, sourcing 100% renewable electricity for facilities, reducing packaging intensity, and increasing packaging circularity. Each panel includes target percentages, FY23–FY25 progress bars, and status labels such as ‘Goal achieved,’ ‘Goal achieved early,’ and ‘Goal in progress.’ The design uses green, black, and white with data visualizations.
