Junior Designer
A junior designer at IOP works closely under the supervision of either a creative director, design director and/or a senior designer, who will provide mentoring to learn the process of working on a project from conception to final delivery. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary team of designers, writers, project managers and developers helping to realize creative concepts into clear deliverables that meet & exceed client objectives with the highest creative results. We expect you to learn about all facets of design and production processes, print and digital.
We work in a hybrid schedule in the NYC office 2–3 days a week, with dedicated fully remote weeks throughout the year.
We are open to a delayed start date in summer, if desired.
Responsiblitites
Design
- Contribute to and create design explorations and solutions across Branding; Digital, and Print.
- Assist and support creative leads in refining design into production. The most important part of your job is to learn efficient design processes while pushing design at every opportunity. Being passionate and open to possibilities are keys to your success.
Production Design: Learn to contribute and problem solve through best practices of execution and implementation of projects while maintaining the highest quality design solutions.
- Digital: Learn to prepare design files/assets and documentation for development including writing specs and behaviors documents.
- Print/Digital PDF: Learn the print production and typesetting process through preparing printer ready files. Learn to create interactive PDFs including ADA accessibility requirements.
- Brand: Learn the process of brand systems creation and production, asset organization and delivery.
Skills & Inspiration
- Share design and production inspiration: new fonts, websites, campaigns, new brands, and print solutions, etc. to the studio. Always be looking for what’s new.
- Learn industry-standard tools and software. Take it upon yourself to learn new software especially. Be fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (Id, Ai, Ps, & Ae), and Figma. Working knowledge of basic web programming (CSS & HTML and WordPress). Basic knowledge of office tools (MS Word, PowerPoint)
- Stay up to date with the latest trends, technological advancements, and supporting innovative thinking.
Communication
- Learn how to communicate with the team and clients. While others may manage the day-to-day client relationships, this is a shared effort and skill in this area contributes to advancement.
- Participate and contribute in critiques.
- Know when to ask for help.
Quality
- Learn to deliver quality creative and error-free files.
- Learn our project processes and systems.
- Participate in QA of your work (digital), ensuring design is implemented as expected.

Salary: $55,000–$58,000 (based on experience and work samples)
